Methodology

Three related questions, evaluated separately — because a method can succeed at one and fail at another.

Convergence

When several distinct timing techniques agree, are participant-reported turning points ranked more highly? Convergence is the central claim: that overlapping signals contain more predictive information than any one technique alone.

The techniques examined
  • Secondary progressions — symbolic development of the natal chart through time
  • Solar arc directions — advancing the chart by the Sun's symbolic arc
  • Outer-planet transits — Jupiter through Pluto contacting prespecified natal points
  • Solar & lunar returns — charts cast for recurring solar and lunar cycles
  • Eclipses — lunations contacting prespecified natal degrees
  • Annual profections — activating a house and its ruler for the year
  • Primary comparison — the frozen convergence score is judged against the best individual technique, not merely against chance

Precision

When a technique identifies a turning point, how closely does its predicted period correspond to the reported date? A broad indication and a precise forecast are not the same thing.

Timing resolution
  • Year — the primary level of analysis
  • Season or month — examined only when the technique and participant data support it
  • Exact date — examined only when confidently remembered or documented
  • Date uncertainty — incorporated into the analysis rather than treated as exact
  • Measured by timing error — the distance between the frozen predicted period and the participant-reported event date

Personalization

Does the participant's real birth chart perform better than plausible incorrect charts? This tests whether the correct birth information contributes anything beyond general age patterns or common planetary cycles.

The comparisons
  • The real chart — the participant's frozen astrological ranking
  • Matched sham charts — plausible incorrect charts scored by the same rules
  • Age and recency — a non-astrological forecast of when major events commonly occur
  • Random ranking — the result expected when years contain no predictive ordering
  • Why it matters — a technique should perform better with the correct birth information than with plausible alternatives

Every claim will face the same standard: frozen rules, unseen event dates, prespecified controls, and publication of the misses alongside the hits.

How It Stays Honest

Blind first. Your chart is calculated and its convergence years recorded before anyone reads your answers.

Misses published. The findings will include where this fails. That's the point of running it.

The Convergence Study

Please answer as accurately as you can — not as impressively as you can. An ordinary year recorded correctly is just as useful to the study as an eventful one.

Your Turning Points

Without consulting your birth chart, an astrologer, or astrology software, think across your life and enter the events or periods that most genuinely changed its direction. These may be positive, difficult, or mixed.

Please begin with the five most consequential events of your life. After entering those five, you may add up to five more.

The year is required. Include the month and day only when you remember them with reasonable confidence. Do not choose dates because they seem astrologically important. A brief description is helpful, but you may omit any detail you'd prefer not to share.
